DRAYTON AMBULANCE STATION INTERSECTION UPGRADE

This project delivered the Stage 1 Enabling Works for the new Drayton Ambulance Station, providing the critical external infrastructure required to support safe and efficient access to the facility. The scope included the upgrade and realignment of Drayton Connection Road (Gwynne Street) to accommodate a dedicated right-turn lane into Shepperd Street, improved intersection visibility, enhanced road safety, and upgrades to power and street lighting services. Shepperd Street was also upgraded to a local access standard, improving functionality, appearance, and serviceability for both the new development and surrounding properties.

Brandon & Associates provided a comprehensive range of services including project management, concept and detailed design, surveying, hydrological and hydraulic engineering, utility service coordination and relocation design, stakeholder consultation, and construction phase services. Extensive liaison with State and Local Government authorities ensured the project met all planning and operational requirements while maintaining alignment with the broader development objectives for the ambulance facility.

A key project achievement was the optimisation of the road corridor design. While the original Traffic Impact Assessment indicated a full realignment of Drayton Connection Road, detailed engineering analysis of intersection geometry, design vehicle movements, and sight distance requirements enabled a more efficient solution requiring only minor widening of the existing roadway. This significantly reduced construction complexity and costs while delivering a safe, practical, and visually appealing outcome. The external works were successfully integrated with the internal ambulance station development, enhancing transport infrastructure, public service access, and community amenity within the Drayton area.
