Famous for its melons and a renowned spot for fossicking, fishing and camping, Chinchilla is an easy drive 81km west of Dalby along the Warrego Highway. The ‘Melon Capital’ of Australia produces 25 percent of the country’s watermelons, rockmelons and honeydew melons and celebrates its status with the biennial Melon Festival.

Education is not left behind with four schools (one state high school, one state primary school, and two private primary schools) that cater from prep to year 12. The Cultural Centre, which includes a 700-seat auditorium, houses a cinema showing recently released movies.

The Chinchilla hospital includes an emergency ward, maternity ward and operating theatre. It can also care for long stay patients, and has other services such as social work, child health, physiotherapy, dietician, speech therapy, occupational therapy, mental health, community health services, a women's clinic and an x-ray facility.

In town, there is also a private dental practice, along with the public dental hospital. Five general practitioners operate in the area, along with an occupational therapist, optometrist, podiatrist, physiotherapists and chiropractors.

Chinchilla has a range of sports facilities and a variety of sports clubs including an indoor 25m heated pool, an outdoor 50m pool, gymnasium, soccer, touch football, rugby league, cricket, tennis, squash, motocross, gymnastics, indoor netball, taekwondo, football and lawn bowls. Hotels, pubs, and churches feature prominently near the centre of town. The ten hotels are within easy walking distance with most adjacent to another hotel.

Roma has a low unemployment rate of 2.9% which is among the lowest unemployment rates in Australia.

Toowoomba provides an ideal opportunity to escape the long commutes and the hustle & bustle of big city life. With affordable quality housing, the average commute to work is only 15 minutes. The local community is an ideal place to live as you enjoy the benefits of a true work-life balance environment. Toowoomba’s reputation as the “Garden City” speaks for itself with parklands, walking trails, and great coffee and breakfasts from a large selection of cafes.

As the second largest inland city in Australia (second to Canberra), you still have access to all mod-cons of city life with a large choice quality private and state education facilities, a university, three major hospitals, a major Airport with direct flights Townsville, Sydney and Melbourne (well usually-unless COVID stops us) and a large choice of sporting, recreational, and cultural facilities.  And if you still have the need to hit the big city, Brisbane is only 1.5 hours away. Or you easily can drive to the Gold or Sunshine Coasts in only 2 hours for a weekend getaway.
