WASTE AND RECYCLING CENTRE INTERSECTION

CIVIL ROAD WORKS

Brandon & Associates were commissioned to design and project manage the construction of a channelled intersection off the Warrego Highway west of Dalby to facilitate access to the new waste and recycling centre. Under separate contracts, two different contractors constructed the waste facility and access intersection.

Design and documentation services provided by Brandon & Associates included intersection geometry and pavement build-up. In order to achieve practicable timeframes, Brandon & Associates began approval negotiations with DTMR and Western Downs Regional Council (WDRC) early on in the process.

At the time of design, a large DTMR flood reconstruction project was proposed to occur concurrently on the highway at same time as this project. This resulted in our approach to quickly modify the design and scope of works for our project, to enable both projects to work together and avoid delays.

Brandon & Associates created tender documentation including specifications and schedules to meet DTMR standards. Analysis of tender submissions was completed with final contractor recommendations made to Council. We maintained a hands-on approach throughout the process and were involved in project monitoring, issuing instructions, negotiating variations, processing claims, reviewing test results and ‘signing off’ on the contractor's quality records.

This project resulted in a successful construction management phase, where the Council subcontractor, Council and the DTMR flood reconstruction contractor, all worked under a tri-party agreement. Thanks to this collaborative approach, Brandon & Associates were able to easily accommodate design changes requested by DMTR during the construction period. Open communication channels assisted the seamless nature of the project and fostered strong working relationships between all parties.
